Five models are open in the 116-house first phase of Bridgeport Village in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood on the Near Southwest Side.

When complete, the development of single-family residences will have as many as 400 houses on more than 40 city blocks and almost a mile of riverfront property.

The two- and three-story houses in Phase I range from 2,400 to 5,270 square feet and include three to five bedrooms, 2 1/2 to 4 1/ 2 baths and two- or three-car garages. They also have gabled roofs, bay windows and wide front porches.

Base prices for the six floor plans start at $365,000 for the three-bedroom model with 2,400 square feet. The four-bedroom, 3,400- square-foot houses start at $430,000, and the five-bedroom designs with more than 4,000 square feet start at over $500,000.

The Kenwood model is a three-story red brick house with a two- story bay window. It has a combined living/dining room, a kitchen with granite countertops and GE appliances, an adjoining family room overlooking a red brick patio, and a detached two-car garage. The master bedroom includes a vaulted ceiling, two walk-in closets and bay windows overlooking the courtyard. A "Jack and Jill" bathroom accesses two secondary bedrooms. On the third floor, a sliding glass door leads to a terrace overlooking the Chicago River.

Houses are being built on 25 1/2-by-107-foot lots and first occupancies are scheduled for this summer. The land plan calls for a system of small parks interconnected by a river walk. Phase II of the development, by Snitzer Homes, will include about 120 homes on 17 acres across the river from the first phase.
