The Plan Commission has approved a residential development planned for a 14.5-acre manufacturing site, an irregularly shaped former railyard roughly bounded by Benson Street, South Racine Avenue and 33rd Street.

The site also borders the south fork of the Chicago River's South Branch on the east bank, a portion known to locals as Bubbly Creek.

JS II LLC, formed by investors John Kinsella and Sid Diamond, Bridgeport Village will be developed by Tom Snitzer of Snitzer Homes.

At the Plan Commission hearing, Kinsella said that construction of three model homes hangs on final rezoning approval. "We hope to build three models by spring and to begin marketing from those models, at the development site," Kinsella said.

He said the three- and four-bedroom houses, whose design will reflect the surrounding neighborhood, will range from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet and include two-car garages, with three-car garages an option. The houses will be available in two- and three-story elevations and priced from $275,000 to $350,000.

Kinsella said the developer expects to build a roughly 1,500-foot landscaped riverwalk as well.
